Things of Interest
Since I purchased my first home, my grandmother has begun a slow and steady campaign to bequeath to me the tools that belonged to my late grandfather, and even those of his father. It is a thrill to me to receive these, not just for their sentimental value, but for their genuine utility. For instance, as a wedding gift she gave me my grandfather's vintage electric sander and a circular saw. These proved invaluable when I was refurbishing my dilapidated old house. Later, when she began gifting me the tools of my great-grandfather--a carpenter by trade--I found that these precision hand-tools were of astonishing quality. Hand-operated drills and saws work flawlessly decades since they last touched a wood surface. Most of these items are familiar looking, but some are not. On this page is an image of a small tool that fits in the hand. It has a spring operated grip that when squeezed activates a metal prong which extends into a lip. There is also a wingnut. I haven't the slightest idea what this tool is, or what it does. Any clues? Large image. Dana |
